Frequently Asked Questions

1.     What is Baradari: A House of Arts and Crafts?

Baradari: A House of Arts and Crafts is a home décor store based in Lucknow, a city in northern India. Lucknow enjoys the reputation of being an important cultural centre because of its rich and glorious heritage. The city is known specially for its handicrafts and arts, including calligraphy.

‘Baradari’ is an Urdu/Hindi word which means “twelve doors”. There are many historical monuments in Lucknow that have 12 doors and are called ‘baradari’. We decided to name our store “Baradari” because our aim is to make and provide artworks that can beautify your home.

2.     What’s special about our Islamic calligraphy artworks?

All our designs are unique. We work with veteran calligraphers in Lucknow who are experts in their art. India has its own unique Islamic heritage. The Taj Mahal, the most beautiful building in the world, is part of that heritage. We are among the very few who specialise in creating Indo-Islamic art.

Our artworks are an innovative blend of traditional, handwritten calligraphy and modern, digital art. Each of our artworks is handwritten by an artist, which is then digitally enhanced, enlarged and coloured. These artworks are then printed on high-quality canvas or fine art paper.

3.     Do we sell prints or originals?

Yes, we sell prints. But our prints are not mere copies of originals. The original handwritten calligraphy, which our artists make exclusively for us, undergoes a tremendous amount of value addition before being printed. We add backgrounds, colours, and decorative elements to an original artwork. We also greatly enhance and sharpen the images so that they can be printed in any size.

4.     How does one frame and maintain the artworks?

Canvas prints need to be stretched over a basic wooden frame. If you wish, you can put an additional frame after the basic wooden framing. Canvas prints don’t need to be covered with glass for protection. Regular, light dusting is enough for maintenance.

Fine art paper prints need to covered with glass.

5.     Do we customise?

Yes, we do. For customisation requests, please write to us at contact@baradariarts.com

For customisation, we need to know the text, the colour of the text, the colour and texture of background, the size, and the print material.

We charge $35 as customisation fee in addition to the total price of the art print. Customisation fee is charged in advance and is non-refundable in case you plan to cancel the order.

Customisation orders take between one and three months to be completed, depending on the size of the text. We have a limited number of expert artists, and we wish to let them give enough time to put in their creative best so that we can deliver you a work of art you can forever feel proud of.

6.     Do we charge for shipping?

We offer free shipping across India. For delivery outside India, we charge a standard rate of $20.

It takes 7-9 days for us to deliver you your piece.

7.     What about refunds and exchange?

If you are not satisfied with our product, you may return it within 15 days of receiving it, and we shall refund you the entire money, including shipping charges. If you wish to exchange, you may do so within 15 days of receiving the product. If the product returned to us is damaged, we will not refund the money or exchange it.
