Set of 4 postcards, each measuring 6 x 9 inches
Each postcard has a Name of Allah.
Pair on top: Al-Azeez Al-Hakeem
Al-Azeez: The Mighty, The All-Powerful, The Invincible. Also, The One with the Ultimate Honour and The One Who Gives Honour
Al-Hakeem: The Most Wise, The One with Infinite Wisdom, The One Who Can Best Judge All Things
Al-Azeez and Al-Hakeem are frequently paired together in the Quran as wisdom tempers power. Power is known to corrupt the mind and heart of mere human beings. But Allah is All-Wise and He Uses His Power with all His Wisdom.
The two Names ae paired in the following verses:
“Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise” – Quran 2:129
“But if you deviate after clear proofs have come to you, then know that Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.” – Quran 2:209
“It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” – Quran 3:6
“Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” – Quran 3:18
Pair below: Al Hayy Al Qayyum
Al Hayy: The Ever-lasting, Self-Sustaining One. Allah has not been created by anyone, and needs no external source to sustain Himself. Unlike humans, His Life is Perfect. He needs no rest, so sleep, no food to sustain Himself. His Life doesn’t end unlike that of His creations.
Al Qayyum: The One Who Creates and Sustains Life. Allah creates and sustains all life. He not only creates life, but also the conditions required to sustain it.
These two names occur in the first part of Ayat Al Kursi in Surah Al Baqrah, which is the greatest verse of the Quran: ‘Allahu La Ilaha illa Huwa Hayyul Qayyum.’ (“God: there is no god but Him. He is the Living, the All-Sustaining.”)
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was faced with a serious difficulty, he would always supplicate, “Ya Hayyu, ya Qayyumu, bi-rahmatika astaghithu (O the Ever-Living, O the Sustainer of all, I seek help in Your grace)." (Tirmidhi)
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was faced with a serious difficulty, he would raise his head to the sky and supplicate, “Subhan-Allah al-’Azim (glory be to Allah, the Mighty).” And when he implored seriously and strongly, he would say, “Ya Hayyu, Ya Qayyum (O the Ever-Living, O the Sustainer of All).” (Tirmidhi)
